Welcome to the website of the Otago Model Engineering Society (OMES). We do hope you will find something of interest if you are a member of the public, a member of another club or a prospective member.

The OMES was established in 1936 for a people to get together to enjoy model engineering, namely building and running a variety of steam, diesel and electric locomotives (Engineering Group), model boats, traction engines, model trains and tethered cars.

Labour Weekend Running- Earnslaw 100th Birthday

9 May 2012- The Otago Model Engineering Society will be open during Labour Weekend, to celebrate the Earnslaw's 100th Birthday along with other steam themed events throughout Dunedin and Queenstown. More information coming!!!

2012 Steam Trials- Queens Birthday Weekend

9 May 2012- Otago Model Engineering Society has recieved 5 entries so far for the Queen's Birthday Steam Trials. We are looking forward to welcoming visitors from other clubs to this event.

14 March 2012- Otago Model Engineering Society would like to invite all members of other model engineering clubs to our 2012 Steam Trials held during Queens Birthday Weekend (2nd-4th June 2012). It will be held to IMLEC rules with the clubs new dynamometer car with prizes for winners in each grade. This is hoped to be a fun couple of days more many model engineers to get together.

This event is open to members with steam locomotives that run on 2 ½, 3 ½, 5 and 7.25 inch gauge locomotives with a maximum working weight of 500 kg’s. The steaming bays have water and compressed air on hand with secure storage for locomotives.

Coming into winter, a great time to start on a new hobby. WHy not join OMES?? Each new member will recieve a tutor (current member) to help them through their modelling.

Phone the president (see below) or come to our next running day (see below) and make yourself known to the members there, and fill out an application form (information to go with application, Note: 2 different pages).

13 Feburary 2012- Otago Model Engineering Society would like to thank all members of OMES and other clubs and all members of the public who attended the annual Festival Week exhibition. Without all your support none of the exhibition would have been possible. Please keep an eye on our "Next Running Day" advertisement above and also our Facebook page for information of when the OMES runs.
